Watts grew up with gators and pythons in the Florida swamp. Now she builds skoolies and community in Spokane. She’s currently at work on an essay collection, Art . Class, and an apocalyptic novel, The Meek.

I aged out of the kinship care branch of the Florida foster care system and worked my way through college and grad school. I’ve held jobs in nearly every industry—art model, cheesemonger, seamstress, photographer, cashier, bartender, text book editor, tutor, brain researcher.
I write at the fault line between privilege and poverty, examining the large-scale systems that shape our lives and the choices people make to survive them. My writing has been supported by Lambda Literary and Washington Artist Trust and been recognized by The DisQuiet Prize and Speculative Literature Foundation.
